The Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State, Hon. Seyi Jakande, has pledged to continue the legacy of his late father, Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande, the former Governor of Lagos State, by prioritising the welfare of the people. Speaking during a media briefing on Thursday to present his 100 days in office scorecard, Jakande said his administration remains focused on improving education, healthcare, security, and youth empowerment within the LCDA. “My father, Late Alhaji Lateef Jakande, during his tenure as the Governor of Lagos State, focused more on education, housing, and the well-being of Lagosians. I am currently following his legacy,” he said. Jakande, who assumed office on July 28, 2025, said one of his first priorities was addressing the security challenges within the LCDA, particularly around the Ashaolu Bridge, which had been a hotspot for criminal activities. “We set up a joint security task force to tackle crime, deployed 24-hour surveillance on the Ashaolu Bridge, installed CCTV cameras, and hybrid lighting systems. These measures have significantly reduced criminal activities in the area,” he stated. Highlighting achievements in infrastructure, Jakande disclosed that his administration had commenced the rehabilitation of 14 roads, including Ibadan Street, Adegboyega Street, Adelakun Street, Adedoja Street, Akala Street, Adewusi Street, and Omotayo Street, among others. In the education sector, the council boss said his administration had sustained the free school bus service initiated by his predecessor, distributed free textbooks and exercise books, and introduced the “Joko Jollof” initiative — a weekly feeding programme providing nutritious meals to over 3,000 pupils across 28 primary schools in the LCDA every Friday. “We also organized spelling bee competitions to enhance the spelling and vocabulary skills of our pupils,” he added. On healthcare, Jakande said his administration had upgraded six primary health centres and was working to digitally connect them to ensure seamless access to medical data across the facilities. “We also held a free medical outreach tagged ‘Jako Medical Outreach’ in partnership with Eko Club Atlanta,” he said. In the area of youth and sports development, the council recently hosted the Chairman’s Cup and is planning a Sports Festival to nurture young talents and engage youths positively. Jakande also revealed that his administration recently interviewed 1,000 youths, out of which 600 were selected and trained in various information technology (IT) skills to enhance their career prospects. He reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive governance, pledging continued support for women, children, the elderly, and persons living with disabilities. “The welfare of the people will continue to be the priority of my administration,” Jakande said.
