Hundreds Join Pinktober Walk Oct 27, 2025 News …Health Minister urges ‘early detection saves lives’ (Kaieteur News) – Hundreds of women and men turned out on Sunday for the annual Pinktober Breast Cancer Awareness Walk, uniting to promote prevention and early detection. Addressing participants, Minister of Health Dr. Frank Anthony commended organisers and attendees for keeping the message alive, while highlighting the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to expand screening and oncology services across Guyana. “Every year in October, we come together for this walk as a way to raise awareness about cancer prevention,” Dr. Anthony said. “What began as a simple initiative has now evolved into a movement that inspires people to take action and make their health a priority.” He stressed the life-saving importance of early detection, urging citizens, especially women to schedule regular mammography and ultrasound screenings. Dr. Anthony highlighted that mammography machines are now installed at Suddie Hospital, Linden Hospital Complex, New Amsterdam Hospital, and Lethem Regional Hospital, with increasing numbers taking advantage of these services. The Minister also acknowledged healthcare professionals, survivors, advocacy groups, and corporate partners for championing breast cancer awareness throughout Pinktober. Representatives from One Communication, a key partner in the event, noted that the walk provides a safe space for survivors to share their stories and inspire others to take preventive action. Dr. Anthony reinforced the national message: “Early Detection Saves Lives,” encouraging citizens to move beyond symbolic gestures and adopt year-round vigilance, regular check-ups, and active support for awareness initiatives.
