Graduate student defender Tim Brdaric came up big for the Orange, scoring both goals, one in the 23rd minute off a Carlos Zambrano assist and another in the 63rd, set up by Gavin Wigg and Giona Leibold. In goal, Tomas Hut was sharp once again, making six saves to bring his season total to 60. Now, the No. 6-seed Orange turn their attention to a tough Quarterfinal matchup against No. 3-seed NC State. Syracuse enters with an 8-6-3 record overall (4-3-1 ACC) and a solid 5-3-2 mark at home, while NC State boasts an impressive 8-1-3 home record and a No. 5 national ranking. The two teams last met on Oct. 31, battling to a 1-1 draw in the regular-season finale. Overall, Syracuse leads the all-time series 6-3-2. The Wolfpack are coming off a dominant 3-0 win over Louisville in the first round, with goals from Drew Lovelace, Carlos Santamaria, and Thomas Lamaille. Senior goalkeeper Logan Erb has been nearly unbeatable this season, allowing just four goals in 17 games while recording 10 shutouts. Offensively, Donovan Phillip leads the charge with 15 goals and 31 points. Kickoff is set for this weekend as the Orange look to keep their postseason run alive against one of the ACC’s hottest teams.
