Selvaraghavan has not only been captivating audiences with his direction but has also been carving a path as an actor for quite some time. His compelling performances in antagonist roles in Tamil cinema have earned widespread acclaim. Following his intense portrayal of a cold-blooded financier in Shane Nigam’s sports drama Balti, the director-actor is now gearing up for the release of Aaryan, where he plays a deadly serial killer alongside Vishnu Vishal. In a conversation with film critic Baradwaj Rangan on his YouTube channel Galatta Plus, Selvaraghavan opened up about Aaryan, the sequels to his directorial ventures currently in development, and why he initially viewed 7G Rainbow Colony as a closed chapter. Selvaraghavan Opens Up About The Sequels of Aayirathil Oruvan and Pudhupettai When asked about the excitement around potential sequels to his films, Selvaraghavan replied, “You feel happy hearing that. But there is the thing, I can’t suddenly decide to make a sequel to my films. I can’t make that call alone. I should wait for a lot of people to come together to make that happen.” What If Karthi And Dhanush Will Be Unavailable For Their Roles? Addressing the buzz around the sequels of his acclaimed films Aayirathil Oruvan and Pudhupettai, Selvaraghavan was asked how he would handle a situation if the original leads, Karthi and Dhanush, were unavailable to reprise their roles. The filmmaker replied, “I can think of those films with other people in the lead. The two stars you spoke about are not available for 3 years as of now. So I can do that. There are other characters and storylines we can follow. Whether I did it consciously or not, both these movies did not end from the hero’s perspective, so we can make the sequels with anyone. But, the script has to satisfy me. I have completed 50 per cent of the script for Pudhupettai.” Selvaraghavan Talks About A Sequel To His Hit 7G Rainbow Colony The director also opened up about his initial hesitation to create a sequel to his cult teen romance 7G Rainbow Colony, stating that he had always viewed the story as complete with the first film. He shared, “When my original producer, Rathnam sir, asked me about the possibility of doing a sequel to 7G Rainbow Colony, it made me think a lot at first. I thought that the story had ended with the first film, no? How do I come up with a second part to that story? I really liked that challenge. So I told him, ‘Sure, we can do it.’ The character of Kadhir from the movie is still alive after the death of Anitha. I thought, what if Kadhir from the first film is still thinking about that girl only and living in love? It’s not possible in real life. But that’s what we are trying to say with the sequel.” Selvaraghavan’s Upcoming Projects Selvaraghavan also revealed that 60 per cent of the shoot for his 7G Rainbow Colony sequel has been completed. Another of his directorial ventures, Mental Manadhil, starring G.V. Prakash Kumar, has wrapped its shoot. For now, all eyes are on his performance in Vishnu Vishal’s investigative thriller Aaryan, which will release on October 31. He will next be seen in the lead role in Dennis Manjunath’s Manithan Deivamagalam.
