Yusuf Hussain, a revered name in Indian cinema, passed away on October 30, 2021. His journey from the business world to the silver screen is nothing short of remarkable. Born on January 21, 1948, Yusuf began his career with small roles, but his unpretentious acting style soon caught the attention of directors. Whether portraying Aamir Khan’s father in ‘Dil Chahta Hai‘ or sharing powerful scenes with Hrithik Roshan in ‘Dhoom 2‘, Yusuf seamlessly blended into every character he played. Initially running a cloth business in Lucknow, Yusuf had never ventured into theatre. However, when the opportunity to act arose, he never looked back. His talent shone brightly in both film and television. Notably, his role as a judge in ‘OMG: Oh My God‘ and his involvement in Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Raees‘ showcased his versatility. He also left a mark in the sci-fi genre with his performance in ‘Krrish 3‘. From Business To The Big Screen He appeared in several roles in episodes of ‘CID‘ and won viewers’ hearts with his performances in shows like ‘Kumkum: Pyara Sa Bandhan‘. His voice, natural mannerisms, and authentic dialogue delivery instantly resonated with audiences. The transition from business to acting wasn’t easy — while running a clothing business in Lucknow, he had no background in theatre. Yet, when opportunity knocked, he seized it and never looked back. His journey stands as proof that true talent always finds its way to shine. He Saved His Son-in-Law’s Career From Sinking Beyond his professional accomplishments, Yusuf’s most memorable contribution was his unwavering support for his son-in-law, film director Hansal Mehta. This act of generosity was not merely financial assistance but a testament to a father’s belief in his son-in-law’s potential. The film went on to win a national award, largely due to Yusuf’s timely intervention. The Film Was Stalled Due To Financial Troubles This incident occurred during the making of Hansal Mehta’s film ‘Shahid‘, based on the life of lawyer and human rights activist Shahid Azmi. Although Mehta managed to complete the first two schedules, the film soon ran into financial trouble. It was a difficult time for the filmmaker, who believed his career was over. Seeing his son-in-law’s despair, Yusuf Hussain made a bold decision — one that could have risked personal relationships. Helped His Son-In-Law With A Fixed Deposit Without hesitation, Yusuf Hussain approached Hansal Mehta and said, “I have a fixed deposit. It’s of no use to me — you can use it.” He then handed Mehta a cheque, enabling him to complete the remaining shoot of Shahid. The film went on to win a National Award. Following Yusuf Hussain’s passing on October 30, 2021, Hansal Mehta shared a heartfelt post on social media, recalling the incident and paying tribute to his beloved father-in-law.
