A woman has spoken of her horror after a stranger jumped into the back of her car and started stabbing a man. The woman was with her elderly mum on Park Road South, heading towards Claughton Road near Birkenhead Park, Merseyside, when she noticed a young man in the road. She realised he was being chased by two people on a moped, and ushered him into the back of her car. The victim jumped into the back seat, but his attacker followed and started stabbing him in the leg, the Liverpool Echo reports. The woman put her foot down on the accelerator, and managed to shake the attacker off the car. The victim was later taken to hospital, and Merseyside Police have confirmed a 17-year-old has been arrested in connection with the incident. The woman, who asked to remain anonymous, told the ECHO: "It was just a horrific attack for me and my mum to witness. "I was driving along the road when I saw this young lad was walking up the middle of the road, trying car handles, screaming. I thought that maybe he was on drugs. "I checked to see whether the car door was locked. Then I saw a moped with two people on it behind him. "The lad was shouting, they're going to kill me. I started shouting for the lad to get in the car. As he was running towards my car, one of the lads got off the bike. My eyes were drawn to his hand and I saw that he had a knife." The victim got on the back seat but the attacker managed to get in as well during the attack, which took place at around 5pm on Thursday, September 2. "It was only because I was in an automatic car that my instant reaction was to put my foot down and that knocked the attacker out of my door. "It was mayhem, there was blood everywhere. It was just horrific. As I was driving, I took my jumper off and threw it towards him. I managed to get him to where he said he lived. "I threw my car up onto the pavement and followed him. All I could hear were the screams from his mum. He was saying, they pinched my scooter. "I left the scene and dropped my mum off where she needed to go. Both of us were in shock, it was horrendous." The woman left her details with the victim before leaving so they could keep in touch. She was later told he had been taken to Aintree Hospital. She has given her eyewitness account to Merseyside Police. The victim received two stab wounds to his leg but has since been discharged, with her, the victim and his family meeting up since. The incident has remained on her mind. She decided to contact the ECHO about what happened after not seeing anything in the press about the incident, which took place in broad daylight. She said: "If I didn't stop, I don't know what would have happened. It was like something out of a horror movie, it was horrific. "My concern was, there were other cars going past. Why hasn't anybody been asking for any details? Is this what normally happens? "My car was covered in blood. There were knife marks on my car. I had to pay for that to be fixed but that's fine - that lad's life was spared. The family and the lad are so lovely. "The police officer said, you stopping has pretty much saved his life, not many people would have done that." When approached by the ECHO, a spokesperson for Merseyside Police confirmed a teenager had been arrested. At around 5.15pm, the force received a report from the North West Ambulance Service that paramedics were treating an 18-year-old man for two stab wounds to his leg. The spokesperson said: "Following inquiries, it's believed the victim had been on an e-scooter in Birkenhead Park when he was chased by two other males who were on a motorbike. "He abandoned his e-scooter and ran onto Park Road South where he was followed by one of the males and stabbed twice to his leg. "He was helped by a member of the public and taken to hospital. He has since been discharged. "The two suspects then fled the scene with the victim's e-scooter. A 17-year-old boy from Noctorum has been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding with intent, robbery and two counts of possession of a controlled Class B drug. He has been conditionally bailed pending further inquiries." Detective Inspector Sarah Wilkinson said: "We take all reports of knives being used in our community extremely seriously and a 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with this incident. "Although we have made an arrest, we are still appealing for any witnesses to come forward. Your information, no matter how small you think it is, could prove to be vital in our ongoing enquiries. "The use of knives on our streets can have tragic consequences and will not be tolerated. There is absolutely no place for knives in our communities and I urge anyone with information on who is carrying them and where they are being stored to get in touch so we can act, or call Crimestoppers anonymously."
