HGTV Star Egypt Sherrod Details Scary, 'Wild' Hotel Room Experience

HGTV star Egypt Sherrod opened up about a scary experience that recently happened to her at a hotel. “Here is why when you’re traveling on the road, you’ve got to pay attention and be astute,” Sherrod, 48, began in a video posted via Instagram. “So, I’m in a hotel, a very swaggy, nice space. No complaints here, except I had to leave the room to go for an appearance, a speaking engagement. And when I came back, the little latch that you put over the door is completely gone.” She went on to note that she was positive there was a latch on the door before she left for the event because she always makes sure to completely lock her doors when she’s in a hotel room. “And if it wasn’t there, I would’ve asked for another room,” she said. The Married to Real Estate star showed her followers that the latch was missing and pointed out that there were scratch marks on the doorframe’s paint, which she said proved “there was activity here to jimmy it open.” “This is wild to me, and I called the manager downstairs and told her I don’t feel safe staying here in this room,” she said. “It’s a beautiful hotel, so I’m not gonna complain about the hotel.” As she continued to film the video, a maintenance person walked by and said it was the first time they had seen something like that happen. Meanwhile, Sherrod explained that her friend, who was also staying at the hotel, still had a latch on her room’s door. “As a woman traveling, anybody actually, this is a red alert. This is a red flag. Be conscious when you’re checking in these hotels. Pay attention to your surroundings. Have your habits that you do and a discipline that you do,” Sherrod told the video’s viewers. “When you go in the room, every single time, make sure it has a lock, a latch. Make sure you can secure the door. Make memory of what you did, that way — when I came back, immediately, I realized it wasn’t there. … And this is proof of evidence.” In addition to sharing the video, Sherrod also opened up about the situation in a lengthy caption. She explained that she was “moved to another room and pushed the sofa in front of the door.” After she initially uploaded the post, she shared an update that she spoke to the hotel’s manager and that they were “investigating the incident fully and was extremely apologetic.” Parade Daily🎬 SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬 Shortly after Sherrod shared the video, several fans took to the comments section to state how happy they were that she was safe. “Glad you noticed. Whoever did this was banking on the possibility that you didn’t notice. They ought to put you in a suite with enhanced security. This is not a good look for the hotel. And you are being very nice,” one person wrote.
