Much has changed in his life since he began his journey. Let’s take a closer look. Ty Griffin From ‘Dangerously Obese’ Now: How Is He Doing Today? Since filming Dangerously Obese, Griffin has maintained his impressive weight loss. He also has a major relationship update after coming out as gay about a year before his journey began: He’s engaged! “We’ve really been inseparable ever since we’ve been together a year and eight months,” Griffin told Parade of his fiancé, whom he met through Facebook. “So going on, going on two years very soon.” Today, Griffin can also do things like fly on an airplane and ride roller coasters without thinking twice about it due to his size. “Looking at myself now, looking back at how I was, it’s insane to me still,” he confessed of losing more than 300 pounds. “I still look at myself. I’m like, that is not even me. You know, I just don’t even see myself like that anymore.” For Griffin, the mental side of changing his eating habits and undergoing weight loss surgery was the most difficult part of his transformation. “You have to be mentally ready for whatever you decide to do,” he explained. “I know two people that’s had the surgery before and after me that still have not lost the weight. If you’re not mentally prepared for it, it’s not going to happen… That’s the biggest change to me is getting your brain set and ready, because if you come out of surgery not ready for that, it’s not going to work.” As for his future, Ty said, “I do feel like the excess skin is a big thing that I want to work toward next.” “I’m so thankful, you know, for everything. Dr. Procter, the team, the Lord—I thank Him all the time—because at some point in time, I did realize I am a ticking time bomb,” he continued. “When is it going to happen? Is what I used to think. And now, I’m just living my life and living to the fullest and being myself. And it’s just, it’s joyful. I love it.” To follow Griffin’s transformation and see how much weight, exactly, he lost in the process, tune in to his episode of Dangerously Obese on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 9 p.m. ET on TLC. The episode also streams the following day on HBO Max.
