Here are the regions that top WAEC’s list of exam malpractice hotspots

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that the Bono, Bono East, Ahafo, and Ashanti Regions have emerged as the leading hotspots for examination malpractices across the country. The Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, John Kapi, made this known in an interview on JoyNews, and monitored by GhanaWeb, on Tuesday, November 4, 2025. WAEC certificate holders may face entrance exams abroad amid rising examination malpractices – EAI He explained that these regions have consistently recorded high cases of examination irregularities over the past two years, with the Central Region also showing a rising trend. “The hotspots in the country are the Bono, Bono East, Ahafo, and Ashanti regions, as well as parts of the Central Region. You might think other regions record higher figures in a particular year, but over the last two years, the data shows that cases in these areas have become increasingly dominant,” he said. Touching on the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), John Kapi said the rise in examination malpractices could largely be attributed to the growing use of technology. WAEC arrests four more over WASSCE malpractice “This year, we came across a lot more mobile phone cases — both on the part of candidates and, in some cases, regulators. We also observed situations where photocopies of responses were made and distributed to candidates at several centres we visited,” he stated. WAEC says it will continue to strengthen its monitoring mechanisms and collaborate with security agencies to safeguard the credibility of its examinations nationwide.
