For shoppers on a budget, it’s imperative to shop smarter to save a dollar. But from bankruptcies to declining sales, the retail landscape has been a skeletal sight to see as of late. Below are are 9 retail chains that already have or plan to shut down various locations by the end of 2025, according to Finance Buzz. Foot Locker By 2026, around 400 total Foot Locker and Champs Sports locations will have faced closures, Going forward, the company plans to focus on a younger demographic and more unique store experiences. Big Lots Overs 600 locations were reported for potential closure in 2025, according to Coresight. But with Big Lots being under new ownership, there’s a chance some locations could be saved. CVS The drugstore retailer introduced a plan in 2021 to close 900 locations over the coming years. Earlier in March, four locations in Connecticut and Michigan were included in the closures as well, to improve foot traffic. Best Buy Best Buy aims to close up to 15 stores this year. Many of its stores have been remodeled recently with a smaller sales floor, with the rest of the space being used to fulfill online orders. Starbucks The coffee chain closed 10 locations in January, according to Starbucks Everywhere and Usearch. A San Francisco location also closed back in February. Walgreens Walgreens Boots Alliance announced 333 store closures this year, according to Coresight. “In fiscal 2025, we are focusing on stabilizing the retail pharmacy by optimizing our footprint, controlling operating costs, improving cash flow, and continuing to address reimbursement models to support dispensing margins and preserve patient access for the future,” Walgreens Boots Alliance CEO Tim Wentworth said, per Finance Buzz. Macy’s Macy’s also made the list, as the retail chain announced plans to close 66 “non-go-forward” and “underproductive” locations this year. Kohl’s Twenty-seven Kohl’s locations closed back in April, and the company reduced its corporate team by 10%. 7-Eleven Inflation and low sales of nicotine products resulted in a tough 2024 for the convenience store chain. This year, 148 closures are planned.
