We want to hear from you Yesterday saw two well-known companies announce plans to cut their workforce. 12.26pm, 29 Oct 2025 Share options THERE HAVE BEEN a lot of job losses in recent weeks, including from some high-profile companies. Amazon is set to cut some of its Irish staff while, last night, it emerged that Fastway was folding with up to 300 jobs in danger. The cuts come hot on the heels of so-called silent layoffs in the tech sector and much broader redundancies in major employers like Oracle. Recent data from the Central Statistics Office showed a spike of 9.4% in ‘job destructions’ compared to the same period last year. Anecdotally, there seems to be a general volatility around jobs right now: there are increasing fears around Ireland’s pharmaceutical sector given the current 15% tariff on exports to the US because of the Trump administration. Advertisement At the same time, the job market itself seems to be tricky: people have spoken about it taking a long time to find a new job after being made redundant. We want to hear from you With the recent layoffs, we’d like to hear from you if you were one of those who have lost their work this year. In a paragraph or two (a maximum of 200 words), please let us know: What happened and what industry did you work in? Did it come as a shock? Was there a redundancy package? What has it been like trying to find work since? Will you remain in Ireland? Email us at answers@thejournal.ie with what happened to you. Please include your name and county, and let us know if you would prefer to remain anonymous. We’ll include your story in a forthcoming article.
