Huawei has officially introduced its latest operating system, the HarmonyOS 6, in China. This is claimed to offer a more refined user interface, improved performance, and deeper AI integration. The performance of the OS is 40% faster than previous builds. The OS also adds new AI features, improves privacy, and customization options. The dynamic light-sensing system will adapt naturally during various tasks like voice assistant activation, privacy interactions, and photo editing. This will result in a seamless and consistent interface during everyday tasks. The upgrade introduces the StarShield Security Architecture, a system-wide upgrade from kernel to app ecosystem. This implements AI-driven protection and enforces user-controlled data access. The Family Anti-Fraud alerts users about suspicious calls, allowing remote termination. It also syncs flagged numbers across devices. AI Anti-Fraud Protection detects scams such as AI face-swap attempts during video calls. Other notable privacy inclusions include Encrypted Sharing, Anti-Peek protection, and View-Once Mode. HarmonyOS 6 boosts performance while improving battery life HarmonyOS 6, powered by the Ark Engine, makes the UI quite responsive and offers faster operations across devices. The company has altered its software, hardware core, and cloud system-level architecture. It has tuned these segments for apps and games, enhancing the actions of app launches, page loading, and renderings. This not only boosts performance but also improves battery life by 35 to 51 minutes. The multi-device performance sees an improvement of around 15% over HarmonyOS 5 and 40% over 4. The app launch speeds are now 11% faster, the page loading is 21% faster, and lastly, the content loads 30% faster than previous versions. Upgraded Xiaoyi assistant HarmonyOS 6 upgrades the Xiaoyi assistant, which is now capable of performing multi-step tasks automatically with a single command. It now supports dialect-based voice interactions for a more natural communication. The new AI Health Assistant that’s accessible via Xiaoyi supports voice-based medical consultations, hospital navigation, appointment scheduling, and insurance code access. The new tap-to-share feature supports over 60 apps. Cross-device workflows now support two-way sharing between mobile and PC. There’s gaze-based drag-and-drop. Live Windows display travel and schedule updates, while multi-scene recognition improves document scanning accuracy even in low-light conditions There are new media tools in HarmonyOS 6. There’s a Scene-aware Portrait Retouching that automatically refines lighting, blur, and depth-of-field with one tap. The personalized color card lets users set a preferred tone for consistent visuals across photos. AI One-Click Filming converts still photos into short animated clips using dynamic effects. HarmonyOS 6 lock screen gets new AIGC-based signature customizations. It can generate artistic designs by analyzing font characteristics and neatly blends text with visuals. Smart composition automatically adjusts depth, layout, and color based on user photos to create unique wallpapers. There are now Mood-based themes. Availability The HarmonyOS 6 public beta launched on October 22nd, 2025. However, this is initially for devices available in mainland China, and doesn’t include Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. The broader rollout to all eligible devices will kick off gradually.
