Talks between State Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav and representatives of the Andhra Pradesh Specialty Hospitals Association (ASHA) ended successfully on Friday with the government agreeing to release ₹250 crore under the third phase and to clear pending hospital dues through a one-time payment system. ASHA representatives also announced that they would resume medical services under Dr. NTR Vaidya Seva immediately following the Minister’s assurances. Speaking to the representatives, Mr. Satya Kumar said he had discussed the issue with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who approved the one-time payment plan to ensure a permanent solution. He said until its implementation, funds to the tune of ₹250 crore will be released immediately. About 50 doctors are being appointed urgently to verify pending bills, he informed, adding that ASHA representatives will be involved in decisions under the Universal Health Policy. The Minister said in view of the patients’ health concerns, the representatives should immediately resume duties. So far, the government has released ₹488 crore in two phases, and with this new instalment, total payments will reach ₹738 crore. He said the coalition government has paid ₹4,143 crores to hospitals since coming to power, including ₹2,403.92 crore in dues left by the previous YSR Congress Party government. Around ₹2,500 crore dues remain pending. Chief Executive Officer of Dr. NTR Vaidya Seva Trust Dinesh Kumar also attended the meeting.
