The Rumginae School of Nursing in Western Province has received a major infrastructure boost following the launch of projects funded under the Public Investment Program (PIP). The National Government funding has been used to improve key facilities, including the construction of an interdenominational chapel, the extension and maintenance of the school mess building, student accommodation in Kiunga, new ablution blocks for male and female students, and the installation of computers and internet services. The funding also covered the purchase of two new Toyota Landcruiser vehicles, a ten-seater and an open-back along with practical equipment for the school’s laboratory. The projects under this funding was worth K2 million. During the official launch, Principal Mr. Amos Kupaloma expressed his gratitude to God and the National Government for supporting the school’s development. “We are transparent about how we use the funds given to us. Every kina has been used to improve the school’s infrastructure and support student learning,” Mr. Kupaloma said. “These projects reflect our commitment to accountability and growth. This institution belongs to the people, and we are just caretakers ensuring it continues to serve future generations.” Mr. Kupaloma explained that the prefabricated materials for the projects were transported from Port Moresby to Kiunga by ship and then to Rumginae by road, with logistics costs covered under the same budget. Construction work was carried out by local contractors, including Tommy Transport & Construction Ltd, which built the chapel, and Lotic Bige Limited (LBL), currently extending and maintaining the mess building. Ablution facilities were constructed by another local firm based at Kilometer 26. The principal said the developments mark a significant milestone in the school’s history and reaffirm its commitment to providing a conducive learning environment for nursing students in Western Province.
