Google highlights new data showing you’re safer from scams on Android than on iPhone

What’s happened? Google has shared new findings indicating that Android users are better protected against scams than iPhone users, citing recent studies conducted by market research and security firms. A survey conducted in partnership with YouGov has revealed that Android users were 58% more likely than iPhone users to report not receiving any scam texts in the week before the survey. The gap increased to 96% when only Pixel users were considered. The survey also found that iPhone users were 65% more likely to report receiving three or more scam texts in a week, with the difference rising to 136% when comparing iPhone and Pixel devices. Additionally, Android users were 20% more likely to describe their device’s scam protection as “very effective” or “extremely effective,” while iPhone users were 150% more likely than Pixel users to say their device was not effective at all. A study conducted by Counterpoint Research comparing AI-powered protections on the latest Pixel, Samsung, Motorola, and iPhone devices found that “Android provides comprehensive AI-driven safeguards across nine key protection areas,” including email, messaging, phone calls, browsing, screen share, app store, outside of app store, on-device behavioral, geo-location, and active theft response. iPhones, in contrast, only offered AI-powered protections in two categories: app store and messaging. A study by cybersecurity firm Leviathan Security Group revealed that among the iPhone 17, Motorola Razr Plus 2025, Pixel 10 Pro, and Galaxy Z Fold 7, the Android phones offered the strongest scam and fraud protection, with the Pixel 10 Pro leading the pack. The firm highlighted Android’s call screen, scam detection, and real-time scam warning authentication capabilities as “key differentiators.” Why should I care? With call and text scams on the rise, having a phone that offers advanced scam protection features can help you stay safer. These findings suggest you’re statistically less likely to receive scam texts or calls if you use an Android phone. If you’re torn between buying the latest Pixel or iPhone, this data could tip the scales in Google’s favor.
