During the Ghosts pilot episode, one of the spirits put himself in harm's way in order to save his friends, which may have predicted that he'll be the first of the main ghosts to be sucked off. In the Ghosts pilot, Samantha (Rose McIver) and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) inherited Woodstone Mansion when Sam's great aunt, Sophie, passed away. The countryside estate had been in Sam's family for six generations, and she wanted to convert it into a bed and breakfast. Before Sam's accident that allowed her to see the ghosts, she decided to smudge the house with sage to cleanse the space and ward off any evil spirits that might be haunting it. As Sam began the smudging, the ghosts--Isaac (Brandon Scott Jones), Flower (Sheila Carrasco), Sasappis (Rámon Zaragoza), Hetty (Rachel Wisocky), Thor (Devan Chandler Long), Trevor (Asher Grodman), and Pete (Richie Moriarty)--looked on in horror, wondering what would happen to them if it worked. Pete Risked His Soul For His Friends Twice In Ghosts When Sam lit the sage, the ghosts stepped away from her, but Pete leaned forward and sniffed it. He said that it was delightful, and then the other ghosts enjoyed the smell as well. However, in that small moment, Pete put his soul on the line for his friends because he had no idea what the sage would do to him if he inhaled it. It was the first instance of Pete putting his friends above himself by taking a risk to assess danger. During the Ghosts season 5 premiere episode, Pete did the same thing for Jay when he offered to take his place when Elias (Matt Walsh) took possession of his soul. He was about to shake Elias' hand to make it official when his ex-wife Carol (Caroline Aaron) volunteered herself instead. She wanted to do right by Pete after cheating on him with his best friend when they were alive. However, Pete's willingness to risk his soul for others could be the very thing that eventually makes him the first of the main ghosts to be sucked off. Pete's Selflessness Will Lead To Him Being The First Main Ghost To Move On Pete, who died in 1985 when a Pinecone Scout in his troop accidentally shot him in the neck with an arrow, is certainly the kindest and most cheerful ghost at Woodstone Mansion. In fact, being the nice guy sometimes makes him appear innocent and even naive. From being cheated on by Carol to not knowing that the travel agency he worked for was actually a front for Carol's mobster family, Pete was taken advantage of in his life. He might need to learn to stand up for himself before he's able to move on, but his kindness is what makes him special. It's very likely that Pete will be the first of the main Ghosts spirits to be sucked off because he's the purest of heart. He's not manipulative and selfish like some of the other ghosts. He's even used his newfound power of being able to leave the Woodstone Mansion grounds to help others, most recently when he reunited the Mummy ghost, Amenhotep (Farhang Ghajar), with his wife in Egypt. Pete deserves to move on to the next phase of the afterlife, and he should be the first main ghost who earns that honor. Although he'll be missed, it'll be very satisfying when he finally does get sucked off and ascends into the light.
