LANSING, Mich. – Detroit Lions legend Herman Moore will serve as grand marshal for the Electric Light Parade at the 41st annual Silver Bells in the City celebration. The celebration will take place in downtown Lansing on Friday, Nov. 21. Moore, a dynamic wide receiver, was selected by the Lions with the 10th overall pick in the 1991 NFL draft after a standout career at the University of Virginia. As a Virginia Cavaliers standout, Moore set school records for receiving yards (2,504) and touchdowns (27), and an Atlantic Coast Conference record for receiving yards in a season (1,190 in 1990). He earned two All-American honors during his college career. After joining Detroit, Moore teamed with running back Barry Sanders to create a potent offense. In his rookie season, Moore helped the Lions reach the playoffs for the first time since 1983. Moore played a key role in the team’s first playoff win since 1957, catching six passes for 87 yards and a touchdown in a 38-6 victory over the Dallas Cowboys in 1991. He played for the Lions through the 2001 season, setting team records for catches (670), receiving yards (9,174), and receiving touchdowns (62). Moore remains second in all three categories behind Calvin Johnson Jr. Moore is a four-time Pro Bowler, three-time NFL All-Pro, and was inducted into the Michigan and Virginia sports halls of fame in 2010. He joined the Pride of the Lions — Detroit’s Ring of Honor — in 2018 alongside Alex Karras and Roger Brown. Following a brief stint with the New York Giants in 2002, Moore transitioned to the business world. He found success as a corporate franchisee, at one point operating every Cinnabon franchise in Michigan and Florida. In 2003, he was named to Crain’s Detroit Business 40 under 40 list. He also worked as an NFL analyst and business consultant. In 2013, Moore founded Team 84 LLC, a certified minority business holding company. The company offers a range of services, including manufacturing, e-commerce, employee incentives, marketing, branding, and business intelligence. Moore is also a committed philanthropist. He established the Herman Moore Tackle Life Foundation in 2011 to support underserved and at-risk youth. The foundation’s programs include sports camps, health and nutrition workshops, fitness and mental health initiatives, career development, and entrepreneurship education. This year, Moore was honored with the Spirit of Michigan Community Impact Award by the Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council for his leadership and lasting community service. The parade will begin at 6 p.m. from the corner of Lenawee Street and South Washington Square. It will feature more than 70 entries adorned with thousands of lights, including nine high school marching bands, horse-drawn dignitary carriages, Santa Claus on his sleigh, and more. Special guests include Paws, the Detroit Tigers mascot; Drum KINGZ; Petoskey Steel Drum Band; and Mott Campus clowns.
