India’s 52-run win over South Africa in the ICC 2025 Women’s World Cup final is historic in many senses. Not only have the players become national heroes, but they are also getting some much-deserved love from around the country in monetary rewards. For a start, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a ₹51 crore reward for the team following their historic triumph. It will be in addition to the USD 4.48 million (approximately ₹40 crore) they’d get from the ICC as the prize money for the tournament. Secretary Devajit Saikia said the prize will be distributed among all players, support staff, and selectors. The BCCI described the gesture as a mark of gratitude and recognition for the team’s remarkable achievement. Meanwhile, Surat-based industrialist and Rajya Sabha MP Govind Dholakia, founder of Shree Ramkrishna Exports, announced gifts of handcrafted diamond jewelry and rooftop solar panels for each member of India’s World Cup–winning women’s team. In a letter to the BCCI before the final, he praised their brilliance and resilience, calling the gesture a token of appreciation. The windfall has also been through sponsorship agreements, with brands lining up to sign Indian stars as they become more and more popular in the country. For example, real estate company Omaxe Ltd appointed captain Harmanpreet Kaur as its brand ambassador. The company announced the deal only hours after the win, saying the partnership reflects its commitment to supporting sports and building infrastructure that inspires athletes. Harmanpreet expressed pride in representing a brand that empowers youth and promotes women’s sports. Other players, most of whom came from humble backgrounds, are also being rewarded handsome cash prizes from their state governments. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced a ₹1 crore reward for pacer Renuka Thakur, who played a vital role. Sukhu said Renuka’s journey from Rohru to the world stage was inspiring for every girl from the hills. Similarly, the Madhya Pradesh government announced a ₹1 crore cash reward for cricketer Kranti Goud. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav congratulated her and praised the squad’s historic victory, saying it reflected India’s growing strength in women’s sports.
