Jason Black, interim superintendent of Conway Public Schools, is among four finalists for the permanent job leading the school district. Black was previously deputy superintendent in Conway. He and the other finalists were among 16 applicants, said Jeff Standridge, the Conway-based consultant for the 9,500-student school district. A search advisory committee screened the applicants. The other finalists are Jennifer Barbaree, superintendent of the Pine Bluff School District; Tamekia Brown, executive director of elementary education in the Waco Independent School District in Waco, Texas; and Bruce Gearing, superintendent of Leander Independent School District in Austin, Texas. The superintendent’s position became open in late June when the Conway School Board voted to buy out the contract of then-Superintendent Jeff Collum. The board plans to do initial interviews with the finalists on Dec. 8, 10, 11 and 17.
