A former 2-time WWE Champion, Baron Corbin, has recently teased a surprise return to WWE. His goal is to participate in John Cena’s "The Last Time Is Now Tournament." At "Saturday Night’s Main Event XLI," WWE aired a video package where John Cena announced the 16-man tournament. The tournament is designed to determine his final opponent for his retirement match on December 13th. The tournament is set to begin on the November 10th episode of "Monday Night Raw" in John Cena’s hometown of Boston. Cena, referred to as "The Last Real Championship," confirmed it will feature stars from "Raw," "SmackDown," "NXT," and even non-WWE stars. Baron Corbin, whose real name is Thomas Pestock, recently logged onto his X (formerly Twitter) account to tease his entry. He indicated he has unresolved animosity toward Cena and is seeking revenge. Corbin posted a clip from a 2017 "SmackDown" episode, showing his Money in the Bank cash-in attempt on then-champion Jinder Mahal. That match, which also involved Cena, saw Corbin's cash-in fail after "The Last Real Champion" provided a distraction, allowing Mahal to pin Corbin. This distraction cost Corbin his Money in the Bank briefcase, a setback he has apparently not forgotten. His tweet suggests he wants to get even with John Cena by being the one to retire him from in-ring competition. He could very much be a part of the tournament. As Cena mentioned in his announcement, superstars from outside of WWE are allowed to participate. More news: WWE Superstar Announces Retirement Match WWE let Corbin go in November 2024 after his contract ran out and the company chose not to renew it. The decision was reportedly based on creative exhaustion, as management felt Corbin's character had peaked and was no longer connecting with the audience after numerous resets. Since his WWE release, Corbin has been exploring new opportunities outside of the squared circle. He has been vocal about taking time off to focus on his personal life and other interests. Fans have noted he is more active on social media, sharing updates on his new ventures. These interests include fitness, acting, and potential business ideas. Corbin is one of the first non-contracted wrestlers to publicly express interest in the open-invitation aspect of "The Last Time Is Now Tournament." With the tournament bracket yet to be revealed, fans will be watching closely to see if Corbin's quest for revenge earns him a spot when the matches begin on November 10th.
