Former Tottenham star branded 'perfect' next Celtic manager as he expresses interest in Wolves boss chance

Celtic have been told that a former Tottenham, Liverpool and Hoops star is an ideal next manager candidate - but he’s got his eyes on a return to Wolves. Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney are currently holding the fort on an interim basis at Parkhead after Brendan Rodgers’ shock resignation. Debate has circled on who will be next and club hero O’Neill has not ruled out as staying into December for the Premier Sports Cup final against St Mirren, after a 3-1 success over Rangers. Another man who has been mentioned is Robbie Keane. He started his career at Wolves and had a loan spell in Hoops as a player, featuring prominently in England for Tottenham, Leeds United, Liverpool and more. Keane is in charge of Hungarian side Ferencvaros and also coached in Israel at Maccabi Tel Aviv, and veteran broadcaster Richard Keys reckons while O’Neill is playing all his cards right, it’s the former Tottenham striker who would be an ideal fit opposed to former boss Ange Postecoglou. He wrote in his blog: “Martin O’Neill is playing a blinder at Celtic. It’s great to see him back in the mix pretending he won’t take the job if it’s offered. Yes he will. If O’Neill doesn’t get it full time my choice would be Robbie Keane. He’d be perfect. They can’t go back to Ange.” Whether or not Keane would want the job is another matter, as he reportedly has his eyes on becoming Wolves manager and a return to Molineux. They sacked Vitor Pereira on Sunday and talkSPORT suggest “Tottenham Hotspur legend Robbie Keane, who started his senior playing career at Wolves, has expressed an interest in the job.” Speaking after the win against Rangers, O’Neill said: “I don't think there'll be that conversation. I genuinely don't think that would be the case. I've come in and deep down I probably have enjoyed it a bit better than I'm saying to you, but not a lot. So it was really strange, I've had enormous help from backroom staff. “Sean Maloney, Mark Fotheringham and big Stephen McManus. All three that I managed at one stage or another and now they're standing beside me in the coaching ranks. So, yeah, it was lovely. It's a great feeling in the dressing room, you know, when you've won a game like that. “I have had no indication, genuinely no indication whatsoever at this minute (on leading them out for cup final). None at all and I would have thought that with Midtjylland now on Thursday night and then Kilmarnock on the Sunday I would think there's probably time for them, with an international break, for the board to think about something. Secretly you would love to, you know... it's December time. We're in the results business and all of these things can change. These games it's all about results. It is, honestly, and that will determine whether they think or the board might think about taking their time.”
