Syracuse, N.Y. — Former Syracuse defensive lineman KingJoseph Edwards will visit for the Orange’s Halloween game against North Carolina, he announced Thursday. Edwards played in five games for the Orange last season as true freshman out of Mill Creek (Georgia). He was ranked as a top-25 defensive end in the Class of 2024 by 247 Sports. He is currently being pursued by Coastal Carolina. After one season and spring practices in 2025, Edwards transferred to Hudson Valley Community College, where Fran Brown played before Western Carolina. Brown left the door open for Edwards to return to Syracuse for 2026 at the time. “He’s just not being able to be with us right now,” Brown said during July’s ACC Kickoff. “Hope that we get an opportunity to bring him back in the spring. We think he was a fine pass rusher that we’ll miss.” Syracuse is thin at defensive end this season and could’ve used Edwards, at the very least, for depth. Syracuse has heavily relied on seniors David Reese and Denis Jaquez Jr., and redshirt-sophomore David Omopariola at defensive end. Senior Kevin Jobity Jr. has alternated between defensive tackle and defensive end. It has resulted in just 16 sacks for Syracuse with the aforementioned players accounting for seven of them. Syracuse has just two defensive ends slated to return next season with at least two more expected to join the team in the freshman Class of 2026. Edwards had his ups and downs with the Syracuse staff but began turning the corner as spring practices came to an end. Now, it seems that a second chance is on the table for him.
