Bryant Gumbel, known for his work on NBC’s “Today” and HBO’s “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel,” has been hospitalized due to a “medical emergency.” first reported the news, saying the host was transported just after 9pm from his Manhattan home to a nearby hospital. He was reportedly taken out of his apartment on a gurney. A family member told the outlet that Gumbel is “okay,” but no further information about his condition is available at this time. Gumbel began as a co-host on “Today” back in 1982, alongside Jane Pauley and Katie Couric. He began hosting “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel” in 1995 and wrapped the long-running series in 2023. The news icon recently lost his older brother and fellow sports broadcaster Greg Gumbel in December 2024. "It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved husband and father, Greg Gumbel. He passed away peacefully surrounded by much love after a courageous battle with cancer,” Greg’s widow Marcy and daughter Michelle said in a statement to at the time. They continued, "Greg approached his illness like one would expect he would, with stoicism, grace, and positivity. He leaves behind a legacy of love, inspiration and dedication to over 50 extraordinary years in the sports broadcast industry; and his iconic voice will never be forgotten."
