The A.P. government’s quick and foolproof arrangements to deal with Severe Cyclonic Storm Montha have reduced the extent of damage to life and property in the State, said Minister for Health, Family Welfare and Medical Education Satya Kumar Yadav. Addressing the media in Vijayawada Wednesday (October 29 ), Mr. Satya Kumar Yadav said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had issued directions to all the departments concerned, which worked in coordination to minimise damage. Mr. Satya Kumar Yadav was speaking after reviewing cyclone relief operations from the Command Control Centre set up on the premises of the Collectorate. Mr. Satya Kumar Yadav, NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha and Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) Commissioner Dhyanachandra H.M. inspected the water-logged roads in the city. The Minister said there is a possibility of viral disease outbreak in the aftermath of the cyclone. Therefore, steps are being taken to remove stagnant water immediately from low-lying areas in the city. Later, NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha said inflows at the Prakasam Barrage and in the Budameru rivulet have come down. Except for those that had been converted into rehabilitation centres, all other schools in the district will re-open on October 30, after obtaining a fitness certificate, the Collector said, adding that the certificate will be given only after ensuring that the ceilings, classrooms, ceiling and boundary walls are all safe. Managements of schools, with rehabilitation centres on their campuses, have to wait until further orders from the administration, he said.
