FM to youth: Trust the transparency of our diplomatic exams

CAIRO, Oct 21 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty, called on fresh graduates to apply for the ministry’s diplomatic exams with full confidence in the transparency and fairness of the process. In his remarks during the first episode of the ministry’s new podcast Diplocast, he called on candidates not to hesitate, saying that the exams select capable individuals who can represent Egypt abroad. He spoke about joining the ministry in 1989, describing how his interest in diplomacy began in childhood while growing up in Assiut. He spoke of the impact of national events, including meeting President Anwar Sadat and witnessing the violence that followed Sadat’s assassination. He also recalled placing first in Upper Egypt in high school exams and his early exposure to politics through his father, which shaped his sense of national service. Abdelatty noted that serving as foreign minister in a time of regional and global crisis is a heavy responsibility, but one he carries with pride. He described the past decade as a defining moment in Egypt’s modern history and credited the country’s survival and stability to national resilience and strong leadership. On the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, the top diplomat stated that diplomatic efforts have completely stalled due to Ethiopia’s continued unilateral actions and refusal to accept basic principles of international law. He confirmed that Egypt reserves the right to defend its water security if damage occurs, in accordance with international legal norms. Abdelatty also spoke about the international campaign that led to Khaled al-Enany’s election as Director-General of UNESCO, describing it as a coordinated national effort involving dozens of country visits and presidential support. The minister concluded that peace cannot be achieved through force and that Egypt believes in resolving conflicts through political and diplomatic means. He pointed to the importance of cultural understanding, international cooperation, and institutions like UNESCO in reducing tensions and promoting long-term peace.
