A Delta Airlines flight was forced to divert to Dublin Airport after a strong smell was detected on board the craft. On Wednesday at around 2:30pm, Delta Flight 257, a regular service between Amsterdam and Boston, diverted to Dublin Airport after reports of a strong 'rotten egg' smell on board the craft. The reported smell was due to a shipment being carried in the cargo hold, with the airline confirming no reported issue with the aircraft. The flight, which was carrying 267 customers and 13 crew members, landed safely without incident and customers deplaned normally. Maintenance teams examined the aircraft and customers stayed overnight in Dublin and were given accommodations. Shaun’s Aviation, a dedicated teenage aviation journalist, wrote in a post on social media: “Airlines flight DL257 / DAL257 diverted to Dublin Airport due to a strong 'rotten egg' smell near a door towards the rear of the aircraft. “Pilots reported it to operations claiming that two flight attendants felt light headed due to the strong smell of rotten eggs between door 3R and 4R. The flight landed in Dublin and was met by maintenance teams as well as paramedics to check the situation”. Delta Airlines apologised for the delay in travel for their customers. A spokesperson for Delta Airlines told the Irish Mirror: "After a smell was detected in the cabin, the flight crew followed procedures and training to safely divert to Dublin. Nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and people, and we apologize for their experience and delay in travel.” For more of the latest breaking news from the Irish Mirror check out our homepage by clicking here .
