The Salima First Grade Magistrate’s Court has fined five men K100,000 each or, in default, face 12 months imprisonment for manufacturing counterfeit glycerin. The court heard that the men, aged between 18 and 24, were arrested at Chipoka Roadblock after being found in possession of 451 bottles of fake glycerin along with forged documents. Passing sentence, Magistrate Anthony Banda ordered that all confiscated products be destroyed, while a Toyota Corolla used during the illegal operation was returned to its owner. Police have since warned against the production and distribution of counterfeit cosmetic products, saying the act endangers public health and violates trade regulations.
