Candidates have been announced for the second local council by-election in Trafford this year. Five contenders will vie for the vacant Hale seat on Thursday November 20 following the resignation of Green Party councillor Owain Sutton on health grounds earlier this month. The candidates are: Phil Holt (Reform UK), Natalie Shalom (Conservative), Clare Sheridan ( Labour ), Jason John Stack ( Liberal Democrats and Orla Weir (Green Party). They can register to vote by midnight on Tuesday, November 4. Postal votes can be applied for by 5pm on Wednesday November 5. People can apply to vote by proxy by 5pm on Wednesday November 12. Voters must show photo ID at polling stations. Anyone who does not have an acceptable ID can apply for a free voter authority certificate. Earlier this month, voters elected Conservative Dr Kaushik Chakraborty in the Broadheath ward following the recent passing of Labour’s Denise Western. Labour currently control the council with a total of 41 seats. The Conservatives are the largest opposition group with nine while the Liberal Democrats have seven and the Greens have five.
