EXCLUSIVE: Deadline can reveal a first look at Noah Jupe (A Quiet Place) and Isabela Merced (The Last of Us) in psychological horror Psyche from Double Garage Films and filmmaker Agustina San Martín. Principal photography has wrapped in Malta. Psyche has added Matilda Lutz (Red Sonja) to its main cast with Amelia Clarkson (The Last Kingdom) and Joel Jackson (Play Dead) also joining. Set against the backdrop of the Greek islands, Psyche follows Mally (Jupe), a young American backpacker who becomes entangled with the dangerously seductive Camila (Merced) and Alex (Lutz) on a remote Greek island. When the trio become embroiled in an illegal archaeological dig and unwittingly awaken ‘Psyche’, goddess of the soul, they unleash an ancient spirit bent on revenge. Architect has boarded for international sales, and will introduce first footage to buyers at AFM. UTA Independent Film Group is handling North America. Argentinian filmmaker Agustina San Martín directs and co-writes from a screenplay by Katy Cavanagh-Jupe. San Martín’s debut feature To Kill The Beast premiered in the Discovery section at TIFF in 2021, while her shorts The Swedish Cousin and Monster God premiered at Berlin and Cannes respectively. She is currently Lin Manuel Miranda’s protégé for the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative and created an art installation that opened at The Harvey Theatre at BAM in 2022. Psyche is one of the inaugural projects from Double Garage Films, the recently launched company from Noah, Chris and Katy Cavanagh-Jupe. The Jupes produce alongside Phin Glynn for Infinity Hill, with financing from Tricky Knot through its ongoing partnership with Double Garage Films. The film’s creative team also includes The White Lotus composer Cristóbal Tapia de Veer, double Academy nominee and BAFTA winning editor Tariq Anwar (The King’s Speech), cinematographer Palo Lozano (Chronicles of a Wandering Saint), production designer Jagna Dobesz (The Girl with the Needle) and costume designer Malgorzata Fudala (The Girl with the Needle). Executive producers are Alexandra Tynion, Olivia Tyson, Sophie Rose Barry, Isabela Merced, Josh Glick, Fernando Loureiro, Axel Kuschevatzky, and Cindy Teperman, Danielle Lauder and Casey Hanley. Architect’s Calum Gray said: “Agustina’s vision of Psyche is daring, darkly enticing and utterly unique: an alluring psycho-sexual horror where your deepest desires twist into your worst nightmares. It’s a story of desire, lust and avarice – and the cost of greed once it has morphed into obsession. Buyers simply won’t have seen anything like it.” Noah Jupe is represented by WME, Brillstein, and attorneys Dan Fox and Steve Warren. Isabela Merced is represented by CAA and Peikoff Mahan. Matilda Lutz is represented by Independent Talent Group, Ethos Entertainment, and Gersh Agency. Agustina San Martín is represented by 2am and Granderson Des Rochers LLP. Amelia Clarkson is represented by Insight Management & Production. Joel Jackson is represented by Morrissey Management in Australia and managed by Brave Artists Management in the US.
