Wait, the next-gen Xbox console may actually have a good selling point. It's been a tough year for Xbox. The constantly rising costs of its consoles has become a concern for the gaming community, especially when paired with the increased cost of the Xbox Game Pass and developer kit. With declining sales, it seems that Microsoft was getting a bit desperate. Then, rumors started swirling that the next console would cost over $1,200. It looked like the nightmare was not ending for anyone who still preferred Xbox to PlayStation. Leak claims next Xbox console will have free multiplayer A recent leak has broken the concerning pattern for Xbox: online multiplayer could be free. This means there would be no subscription requirement to play online games. I can barely remember a time when we didn't pay for online services on Xbox - and every other console. Xbox Live was introduced back in 2002 and it was even $49.99 per year even back then. Sony stayed free for a bit but then copied the model in 2013 with the launch of the PlayStation 4. Nintendo Switch decided to hop in (because why not) and introduced the Nintendo Switch Online membership in 2018. By 2021, Xbox Live was changed to Xbox Network, but that didn't make it any more awesome. Now, a report by Windows Central claims this could all be coming to an end with the launch of the next-gen Xbox console. This would coincide with a previous report by Corden that claims the Xbox is aiming to be more like a PC. To go along with this, Microsoft is allegedly working on Xbox emulation for Windows. If this were the case, would you be more willing to pay upwards of $1,200?
