The Dallas Mavericks are on the road on Monday night as they travel to take on the Houston Rockets in a Western Conference showdown. It has been a rough start to the season for the Mavericks as they enter Monday’s game with a 2-4 record after losing to the Detroit Pistons in Mexico City on Saturday night. In Saturday’s loss to the Pistons, D’Angelo Russell led the way for the Mavericks as he recorded 31 points and seven rebounds off the bench while Cooper Flagg ended the game with 16 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Now Dallas will try to bounce back as they try to grab their third victory of the season in Monday’s matchup against the Rockets. On the other side, the Rockets enter Monday’s contest with a 3-2 record after defeating the Boston Celtics on the road on Saturday night. Kevin Durant led the way for Houston in Saturday’s victory as he ended the game with 26 points and four rebounds while Alperen Sengun added 16 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists of his own. While both teams are looking for a key victory in Monday’s matchup, both squads may be without multiple key players due to injuries. Dallas has ruled out Davis for Monday’s game due to a left calf strain that he suffered in Wednesday’s victory over the Indiana Pacers that caused him to miss Saturday’s game. Davis is supposed to be re-evaluated this week but with him sidelined on Monday, Daniel Gafford and Dwight Powell may be in line for larger roles. On the other side, the Rockets have three players listed on their injury report for Monday’s game, including Jabari Smith Jr. Houston has listed Smith Jr. as questionable for Monday’s contest due to a right ankle sprain and he is in danger of missing his first game of the season. If Smith Jr. is sidelined, Tari Eason, Josh Okogie and Jae’Sean Tate will likely have larger roles against the Mavericks. The Rockets have also ruled out Dorian Finney-Smith and Fred VanVleet for Monday’s game as they continue to be sidelined to begin the season.
