The Los Angeles Lakers are on the road on Friday night as they travel to face the Memphis Grizzlies to start NBA Cup group play. Los Angeles enters Friday’s contest with a 3-2 record after defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night thanks to a game-winning floater by Austin Reaves. In Wednesday’s victory over the Timberwolves, Reaves led the way for the Lakers as he ended the game with 28 points and 16 assists while Jake LaRavia added 27 points and eight rebounds of his own. Now the Lakers will try to grab their fourth victory of the season on Friday against the Grizzlies while also beginning NBA Cup group play with a win. On the other side, the Grizzlies also enter Friday’s game with a 3-2 record after defeating the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night. Ja Morant led the way for the Grizzlies in Wednesday’s victory as he recorded 28 points, eight rebounds and seven assists while Jaren Jackson Jr. ended the game with 18 points, six rebounds and three steals. While both teams are seeking their fourth victory of the season along with a win to begin NBA Cup group play in Friday’s matchup, both squads may be without some of their key players due to injuries. Lakers Injury Report, Will Luka Doncic, Marcus Smart Play? For the Lakers, they enter Friday’s game with six players listed on their injury report, including star guard Luka Doncic. Los Angeles has upgraded Doncic to questionable for Friday’s game due to a left finger sprain and lower left leg contusion and the star guard may make his return after missing the last three games. Of course, the Lakers may also elect to sit him out at least one more game due to his injuries, though they may choose to bring Doncic back for Friday night due to the start of NBA Cup group play. The Lakers have also listed Marcus Smart as questionable for Friday’s game due to a right quad contusion while LeBron James, Gabe Vincent, Maxi Klebr and Adou Thiero remain sidelined. Grizzlies Injury Report, Will Ty Jerome Play? On the other side, the Grizzlies have four players listed on their injury report for Friday’s game against the Lakers. Memphis has ruled out Ty Jerome for Friday’s game due to a calf strain that has sidelined him to begin the season. The Grizzlies have also ruled out Zach Edey, Brandon Clarke and Scotty Pippen Jr. as they continued to be sidelined due to recovery from offseason surgery.
