A final decision on the reorganisation of districts in Andhra Pradesh will be taken shortly after discussions with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Minister for Revenue, Stamps and Registration Anagani Satya Prasad has said. Mr. Satya Prasad was speaking after a meeting of the Group of Ministers (GoM) on district reorganisation held at the State Secretariat, in Amaravati on Wednesday. Ministers Vangalapudi Anitha (Home), Nimmala Ramanaidu (Water Resources), Nadendla Manohar (Civil Supplies), and BC Janardhan Reddy (Roads and Buildings) attended the meeting, while Satya Kumar Yadav (Health) joined virtually. Mr. Satya Prasad said the Ministers held detailed deliberations on various proposals received to improve administrative convenience. “The CCLA will soon prepare its report, and after consulting the Chief Minister, we will announce the final decision,” he added. Mr. Naidu had suggested setting up a Special Development Authority for Alluri Sitharama Raju district, and the GoM discussed modalities for its formation and functioning. Mr. Satya Prasad said the government had received several requests from the public for the creation of new districts, including proposals for eight additional ones. However, the final decision would be based solely on administrative feasibility, he clarified. He also stated that many proposals had been received for new revenue divisions, as some existing divisions were located nearly 125 km apart. “We discussed these issues in detail, and new divisions will be formed in line with administrative requirements,” he said. The GoM also held in-depth discussions on villages affected by Polavaram submergence, he added. Commenting on the recent ACB inspections in Sub-Registrar Offices, Mr. Satya Prasad said they were a positive sign reflecting the coalition government’s commitment to transparent governance. “We have received public complaints about corruption in registration offices. Strict action will be taken against those involved in irregularities. Some officials have already been suspended,” he said. The Minister asserted that such measures would instil a sense of accountability and fear among errant officials while reinforcing the government’s resolve to maintain transparency in administration.
