The only game missing from this slate is FSU at Clemson. While the decision is somewhat justified, as the matchups that replaced it have massive playoff significance. Virginia and the Louisville Cardinals are in the hunt for playoff berths this season. Although the Clemson vs. Florida State rivalry outweighs these matchups by far in terms of fan base and viewership. What’s more fascinating is the disregard for the historic significance of the contest shown while taking this decision. Both of them share 6 national championships between them. It’s a matchup that has often decided playoff fates. After all, this is the game that CBS Sports in 2016 declared as “the best annual game in college football.” Meanwhile, it could have been a great game, as both teams showed glimpses of brilliance, with Florida State winning against Wake Forest 42-7 and Clemson losing narrowly to Duke 45-46. This entire scheduling fiasco has reignited the debate around the importance of ratings over traditions. College football is entering an ultra-competitive and unpredictable era in which the Davids are increasingly winning against the Goliaths. And traditional powerhouses are becoming more grounded. Ultimately, it’s a win for the sports, but it’s still hard for fans of the big teams when something like this happens. Guess that’s what happens when FSU has only won 2 ACC games over the 2024-25 seasons & Clemson can’t seem to win league games at Death Valley anymore.
