EAST GRAND RAPIDS, MI – East Grand Rapids Public Schools voters approved a 10-year, half-mill levy for a sinking fund in the Tuesday, Nov. 4 election. The fund will be used to cover costs for construction or repair of school buildings, improve security, technology upgrades and vehicles. Voters passed the millage by a vote of 2,209 to 816 with all four precincts reporting, according to unofficial election results from the Kent County Clerk’s Office. The proposal asked voters to authorize the school district to levy an amount not to exceed .5 mill ($0.50 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation) for 10 years, 2026 to 2035. A sinking fund for the same amount expires this year. The cost to the owner of a house valued at $500,00, with a $250,000 taxable value, will be $125 annually. The millage will generate approximately $548,320 in its first year, according to the Kent County Clerk’s Office website. Election results remain unofficial until they are certified by the county board of canvassers.
