Egypt, China advance strategic partnership

Egypt, China have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening their strategic partnership, setting a distinguished example for South-South cooperation, according to statements made by Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Liao Liqiang. Speaking at a reception hosted late on Monday by the Egypt-China Friendship Association, which celebrated the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Ambassador Liao emphasised the fruitful outcomes achieved by both nations under the guidance of their leaders. Liao praised Egypt’s diplomatic efforts to facilitate a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and reiterated China’s support for an inclusive, lasting resolution to the Palestinian issue. “There is an urgent need to achieve a comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza, implement the principle of ‘Palestinian governance for Palestinians,’ and steadfastly uphold the ‘two-state solution,'” Liao said. “China stands ready to work with Egypt and other nations to pursue a comprehensive, just, and lasting resolution to the Palestinian issue, contributing to peace and stability in the Middle East.” Looking ahead, 2026 will mark the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Egypt, coinciding with China’s hosting of the second China-Arab States Summit. Ambassador Liao noted that China anticipates further deepening its traditional friendship with Egypt, enhancing mutual strategic trust, and expanding practical cooperation to new levels for the mutual benefit of both countries. Cairo Governor Ibrahim Saber highlighted the growing bonds between Cairo and several Chinese cities, underscored by memoranda of understanding and numerous joint projects. “We greatly admire China’s pioneering experience in construction, technology, and innovation, a source of inspiration and a valuable model from which we are keen to benefit as we pursue development in Cairo and all Egyptian cities,” Saber said. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Abu Bakr Hefny commended Chinese companies for supporting major development projects in Egypt and expressed interest in more Chinese investment, particularly in renewable energy, electric vehicles, tourism, and industry. Bilateral trade relations have improved after the recent decision to exempt Egyptian exports from customs duties, leading to stronger and more balanced economic cooperation between the two countries, he said.
