The Philadelphia Eagles were very busy before the NFL trade deadline, swinging trades to acquire cornerbacks Michael Carter II and Jaire Alexander — a two-time Pro Bowler — as well as edge rusher Jaelan Phillips. Now that the deadline has come and gone, the Eagles can’t swing any more trades, but they can explore what’s left of the free-agent market to try and find some potential additions for another Super Bowl run. Read more: Former Raiders Star Blasts Broncos After Denver’s Ugly Win Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox recently put together a list of the top 10 free agents remaining, and he linked two-time Pro Bowl safety Justin Simmons to Philadelphia. “The Eagles would also make a lot of sense, especially given their status as buyers at the deadline,” Knox wrote. “Simmons played for both defensive coordinator Vic Fangio and defensive backs coach Christian Parker during his time in Denver.” Simmons spent the 2024 campaign with the Atlanta Falcons, registering 62 tackles, a couple of interceptions and seven passes defended in 16 games. The 31-year-old was originally selected by the Broncos in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft and resided in Denver for the first eight seasons of his career, notching Second-Team All-Pro honors four times. In fact, Simmons is just two years removed from making the Pro Bowl and earning a Second-Team All-Pro selection when he posted 70 tackles, a sack, three picks and eight passes defended in 2023. Obviously, the Boston College product is no longer the same player he once was. That’s why he is still left unsigned more than halfway through the 2025 regular season. However, he could certainly add some solid veteran depth to an Eagles secondary that could definitely use it.
