It’s been an emotional week for coach Aaron Glenn and the New York Jets as one of the franchise’s best all-time players, former offensive lineman Nick Mangold, passed away due to complications from kidney disease. Glenn’s team got its first win of the season on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals. On Wednesday, the Jets made headlines again as they announced a major trade has been made with the defending Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles. The news was announced by reporter Dianna Russini of The Athletic and included the swap of two players and two draft picks between the AFC and NFC teams. The Jets also received a 2027 sixth-round draft pick in the deal. Carter II has 65 games with the Jets franchise under his belt, including five this season. He has recorded 14 tackles and two pass break-ups for Glenn’s team and will now head to Philadelphia to provide depth to one of the league’s better secondaries. Metchie III Joins Jets’ WR Corps Metchie III was selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft (44th overall) by the Houston Texans and traded to the Eagles this August. He’s been healthy this season, but his statistical output has dropped significantly, with four catches for 18 yards on the season for an average of 4.5 yards per catch. Metchie III had 24 catches for 254 yards and a touchdown last season in Houston, the best statistical season of his NFL career. The former Alabama star did not run the 40-yard dash in the 2022 NFL Draft Combine, but showed game-breaking speed in college for Saban’s team, especially during his sophomore season when he averaged 16.7 yards per catch. The Jets’ passing game ranks dead last in the NFL at just over 156 yards per game. The hope is that Metchie III provides a spark for a team in dire need of one on offense.
