Duet Night Abyss features a relatively easy to use fishing system that doesn’t force you to grind a lot of skill levels just to pick up rare, interesting fish. It also unlocks via a side quest needed to progress in the main story, or at least, it showed up as a must-complete quest in my personal playthrough. Either way, it’s a surprisingly easy system to engage with, that also features worthwhile rewards. It’s not difficult to get bait, and there are at least three different fishing spots in the world right now. We’ve found two of them, and will update this article when we find the third hiding down in the Sewers. It doesn’t matter which character you play as for this either, since unlocking fishing requires no combat. How to unlock Fishing in Duet Night AbyssDuet Night Abyss’s Fishing mini-game unlocks after you complete the Depths of Winter main story quest. Well, that’s the requirement to pick up the fishing quest Dedicated Chef. Before you can move on to A Bouquet for a Maiden, this quest will pop up among the side quests you can complete to increase your Trial Level. Interestingly enough, this is also a requirement to unlock Multiplayer. You can unlock fishing very close to this fast travel location in Icelake (Image via Hero Games)You will find Dedicated Chef by using the Windwake Pier fast travel in the Icelake Environs. As soon as you fast travel in, you should see a blue quest marker nearby. He’s at Zephyr Path, so he’s not very far away from the fast travel point. You can find his location on the map above in Duet Night Abyss. He does have a chance to pick up some Wisdom or Empathy Impressions. If you pick the first reply to him you gain +3 Wisdom, and the second is +3 Empathy. Agree to help him, and you’ll be given a Training Rod and 10x Basic Lures. He’ll direct you to a nearby pier to reel in any kind of fish. You should get it from your very first attempt. Return with the fish and he’ll “cook up a meal”. You’ll then get another chance for some Impressions. The choices below dictate what stats you’ll gain:First Choice: +3 WisdomSecond Choice: +3 EmpathyThird Choice: +3 ChaosMarcus will then guide you to another location nearby for a specific fish, the Phoxenetrout. You should also be able to fish this up on your first try. Bring it back to Marcus, and he’ll cook it up for you. This one comes out much better, and you’ll be able to gain a few more Impressions points:First Choice: +3 WisdomSecond Choice: +3 EmpathyFinally, meet Marcus in town, while he’s sitting on a bench to get one more choice. If you’re honest, you’ll receive +3 Morality, and if you lie to him, you gain +3 Empathy. It’s really up to you. While you don’t have to complete this quest to unlock fishing, you may as well since you have to start it to access fishing in the first place. How to go Fishing in Duet Night AbyssIt's easy to change rods and lures as needed (Image via Hero Games)The aforementioned quest will teach you how to fish, but here’s a basic rundown of what you need to know. You need A Rod, and some Lures, which you do gain from this quest. However, if you go to Icelake Suburban Square in town, you can speak to the Icelake Fisheries NPC (you can fast travel directly to them), you can buy more basic bait here. It only costs 1,000 Coins, but is limited to 10 pieces a day.In order to actually fish, you need to head to one of the Fishing Spots designated in the world, and press F/Triangle to kick it off. You can then click the fishing rod and bait on-screen to change to different ones, if needed. Then, when you’re ready, select Start Fishing.Press the X/Space button to cast your lure into the water, and wait for a little exclamation mark to pop up. Press X/Space again, and the mini-game kicks off. You’ll see a meter with a fish in it pop up to your right. It will move up and down in that bar. Hold the button to make the icon rise, release it to make the icon fall.Just keep the icon over the fish as best you can (Image via Hero Games)Keeping the icon over the fish makes the meter to the right rise. When that white line reaches the top, you catch a fish in this Duet Night Abyss mini-game. If it gets to the bottom, the fish can get away. It’s a very simple mini-game, and the better your fishing rod is, the bigger an icon you have to match a fish’s location. The better lures get you rarer fish, as far as we can tell. The rarer a fish is, the more it’s likely to move around. Another neat feature is that occasionally, you can use your currently caught fish, to try for a rarer one. I recommend doing it, because you can catch some truly amazing fish. Depending on the fish, its rarity, size, and if it’s a variant, it will be worth a set amount of Angler’s Tokens. You can see that on the pop-up when you catch a fish.Just head to the pier, and get ready to fish! (Image via Hero Games)Right now, there are three fishing locations in Duet Night Abyss, and one of these, in Icelake, unlocks as a matter of completing this quest. We also know there’s one in the Sewers, as well as on Purgatorio, but we have not found the Sewers fishing location yet. The map above shows where you can find the Purgatorio fishing spot at. Fast Travel to the Filthoid-Ravaged Village, and run to the nearby pier. There is also supposed to be a Geniemon that has a passive that reels fish in for you, but we've not uncovered that, to confirm it one way or another. All rewards unlockable from the Fishing mini-game in Duet Night AbyssFish’s primary purpose is to be traded in for Angler’s Tokens, which you can do from your inventory in-game. Just go to your inventory and select the Fishing Tab. Press the Sell Button, select all the fish you want to get rid of, and select sell again. You’ll see how many Angler’s Tokens you’ll gain when you confirm. You can just head to your inventory to sell fish. It's quick and painless (Image via Hero Games)You can then spend those at any fishing spot in Duet Night Abyss by going to the fishing menu, and pressing Down on the Dpad/clicking the Shopping Cart icon in the bottom left. Conversely, you can head back to Icelake and speak to the Icelake Fisheries NPC. Either way works. As you purchase Rods from this NPC, you’ll unlock the ability to pick up better ones. Right now, we’ve purchased the Beginner Rod, and when we reach Trial Level Rank 30, we can get the Advanced Rod for 2,500 Angler’s Tokens. Here’s all the rewards we’ve seen so far, what they cost, and if there’s a Trial Rank requirement.
