BREAKING: Met Office issues yellow weather warnings for heavy rain across UK - check your area

Yellow weather warnings are in place as heavy rain and howling winds are set to batter the UK. The Met Office, Britain's national forecaster, has issued an update warning Brits in southern and eastern parts of the country of a "heavy swathe of rain". The weather front is set to make landfall on Wednesday night, continuing into Thursday. Some areas could see as much as 50mm of rain falling, while 20-30mm is expected in most places. However, some areas could see more rainfall, including areas in North Devon and Cornwall and the eastern coastal areas of England. As well as rain, windy conditions are also expected along the southern and eastern coasts - with a chance of gales in some places. The Met Office has warned Brits of "spray and flooding on roads", which will lead to "difficult driving conditions and increased chance of accidents". This could have a knock-on effect on driving times. Public transport could also be affected with longer journey times. They have also warned that some homes and businesses could be flooded. Brits should check if their property is at risk of flooding and, if so, "consider preparing a flood plan and an emergency flood kit". The advice continues: "Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary. "People cope better with power cuts when they have prepared for them in advance. It’s easy to do; consider gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items. "Be prepared for weather warnings to change quickly: when a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area."
