Driver struck by bullet Thursday morning in New Kent

NEW KENT — A driver drove himself while seeking help Thursday after being struck by a bullet on Route 60 in New Kent County. State police said the shooting occurred about 10:23 a.m. Thursday on Pocahontas Trail (Route 60) in Quinton. “Preliminary investigations show this to be an isolated incident,” said police spokeswoman Robin Lawson in a news release. According to the release, the driver of a Hyundai Kona drove himself to Love’s Travel Stop in Providence Forge after being shot, then was taken by ambulance to a hospital. Police did not say where the driver was from or how old he was. His injuries were non-life threatening. One person was detained, but police did not provide any details. Motorists are reminded to remain cautious on the roadways and drive defensively to avoid aggressive behavior, Lawson said. Anyone with information is asked to contact state police at #77 or 804-750-8758. David Macaulay, Davidmacaulayva@gmail.com
