Driver’s Dashcam Captures Terrifying Close Call On Bengaluru-Hyderabad Highway

A terrifying video showing a near-fatal encounter on the Bengaluru–Hyderabad highway has fueled a major debate on highway safety on social media. The dashcam footage, shared on X (formerly Twitter) showed a car driver narrowly escaping a head-on collision with a truck after being allegedly forced off his lane by a speeding private bus. The video, captured around 4:30 am on October 23, and shared by the driver, called out the bus driver’s “reckless and life-threatening” behavior on the road. Sharing the video, he wrote, “Yesterday at 4:30AM, I narrowly missed an accident due to the careless driving of private travel bus on Bangalore to Hyd road.!! Fortunately, I didn’t panic. One wrong turn would’ve costed our lives.!! This is just an example of the accidents costing many lives on the highways due to the private travel buses and their careless driving.!!” Yesterday at 4:30AM, I narrowly missed an accident due to the careless driving of private travel bus on Bangalore to Hyd road.!! (@Chandra4Bharat) October 24, 2025 The clip quickly went viral, garnering over 1.2 million views. Netizens however, were critical of the way Chandra drove, too. They said Chandra should not have tailgated the bus. To this, he responded saying, “Yes, I was at fault by tailgating the bus. But, when the bus driver saw that there was a slow moving truck, he should’ve slowed down instead of turning it suddenly, not to save me but to protect the passengers in his bus.” Meanwhile, many users expressed shock and sympathy for the driver’s narrow escape. One user commented, “That near miss sounds like a horror movie you survived with a smile and a sigh.” Some users defended the bus driver, shifting the blame to other vehicles for blocking lanes. “Nothing wrong with the bus driving. He indicated. If we have to blame the bus for overtaking on the left, then we need to get the slow-moving trucks off the right lane,” a third user argued, injecting the complex issue of lane discipline among slow-moving heavy vehicles. Some users also reflected on broader road safety issues. One person wrote, “Lives are never guaranteed, be it in a bus, train, or flight. But over the last 3–4 years, I’ve personally found train travel to be a lot more comfortable and safer compared to buses. Most bus drivers these days drive quite rashly, and many operators still manage with just one driver for an entire trip. Ideally, every interstate or long-distance bus, regardless of the distance, should have at least two drivers and a conductor onboard.” The video came into limelight a day after 20 were killed after private bus traveling from Hyderabad to Bengaluru caught fire on the outskirts of Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh. Authorities said the blaze erupted after the bus’s fuel tank ignited following an accident with a motorbike.
