A man has been arrested after a car struck a pedestrian and crashed into a Sainsbury's convenience store on Monday afternoon (October 27). Police, fire crews and paramedics attended the incident off Darwen Road following reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian. The pedestrian, in his 40s, was airlifted to Royal Preston Hospital after suffering potentially life-changing injuries, Greater Manchester Police said. Join the Manchester Evening News WhatsApp group HERE The black Range Rover involved then ploughed into a bollard and part of the wall outside the Sainsbury's Local and was left badly damaged. Greater Manchester Police have confirmed that the driver, a 56-year-old man, had been driving in the car park with his boot open prior to the collision. He was equally rushed to hospital and has since been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit through drugs. A GMP spokesperson said: "Officers were called to reports of a road traffic collision at around 12:49pm today (Monday 27 October 2025) on Darwen Road in Bolton . "Whilst in a car park, the driver of a Range Rover collided with a pedestrian and the shop building. The driver has been taken to hospital for treatment then will be taken into police custody. "Investigators are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward. They are also keen to speak to anyone who may have any CCTV footage, including dashcam, mobile phone footage from the area in the moments leading up to the incident.
