Dame Jacinda Ardern, the former prime minister of New Zealand, is coming to Glasgow for a special event. Visiting Glasgow Film Theatre (GFT) on Friday, November 21, the feminist political icon will host an exclusive Q&A event, following the Scottish premiere screening of new documentary Prime Minister. The event will be Ardern’s only in-person appearance outside of London to promote the film, which won the Audience Award at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Producers say the film offers a "remarkably intimate portrait" of Jacinda’s time in office, blending home footage shot by her husband with never-before-heard audio recorded during her years as New Zealand’s leader. Co-directors Lindsay Utz and Michelle Walshe go behind the scenes of both Ardern’s administration and private life, tracing seven turbulent years in which she guided her country through a deadly volcanic eruption, its worst-ever terror attack, and a global pandemic. Beginning with her unexpected appointment to opposition leader just weeks before a general election, Prime Minister charts her meteoric rise to the top of New Zealand politics — from becoming a feminist political icon and giving birth while in office, to her sudden resignation and continued advocacy against isolationism, fear, and the distortion of truth. Prime Minister will be released in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on 5 December by Met Film Distribution. Tickets for Prime Minister + Q&A with Jacinda Ardern will go on sale on Tuesday, October 28 at 1.30pm from glasgowfilm.org and the GFT Box Office.
