And that was a building that was built specifically to ensure that artists could afford this city. It's time to actually do much more of that here," Zohran Mamdani stated.Zohran Mamdani's connection to arts and entertainment is not new. The report cited a Mira Nair's 2018 interview in which she claimed that Warner Bros reached out to her and gave her an offer to direct Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. However, she turned down the offer after Zohran Mamdani, who was 14 at the time, convinced her to work on another movie named The Namesake. She stated that the film was influenced by her personal experience."I was deep in that melancholy. That’s what inspired me to make ‘The Namesake,’ because Jhumpa [Lahiri] had written in it of this terrible melancholy of losing a parent in a foreign country, which is exactly what I was experiencing," she added. The filmmaker mentioned that she was a month away from starting to work on The Namesake when Warner Bros. approached her. She said that she went for the meeting because Zohran Mamdani "learned to read" from Harry Potter books. Nair added that she faced a dilemma and asked for her son's opinion."I was in the throes of it and then I was very trouble to be able to give up my own film and I asked my 14 year old son Zohran what should I do and he said to me, 'Mama many good directors can make Harry Potter but only you can make The Namesake,' and it was such a liberating and clarifying statement," Mira Nair said.In addition to interviewing Zohran Mamdani, Pop Base also asked some candid questions to Congresswoman AOC in its recent New York event.
