“Miggy, you can’t retire next year. You’re playing with me for 10 more years.” Shohei Ohtani couldn’t have picked a better moment to say that, especially after what Miguel Rojas just did in Game 7 of the World Series. Well, the Dodgers are stacked with some of the best players on the planet. But when it mattered most, it was 36-year-old Rojas who delivered the clutch hit of the season, launching that ninth-inning homer in Game 7 of the World Series. That shot actually set up the Dodgers’ extra-inning win and sealed their second straight championship — the first team to go back-to-back in 25 years. Crazy part? Earlier this very season, Rojas was extremely close to being DFA’d! Yes, you heard that right. “ ADVERTISEMENT So you thought you were coming to get DFAD? Yeah. And I text my agent. I text my agent and he can he can tell you. You can talk to him,” Rojas shared what went through in the middle of this year during a podcast with JM Baseball. What made Miguel Rojas’ heroics even more incredible is how completely different they were from anything he’d shown all season. Reportedly, Rojas hit just seven HRs during the regular season. His blast in Game 7? That was only the second postseason homer he’s ever hit, and the first since 2020. Even in this year’s playoffs, he hit .278, with just five hits in eight games, except for that massive home run in Game 7. Now, it’s wild to think back to where both he and the Dodgers were just a couple of months ago. Remember that slump in early September? From July 4 through mid-September, the Dodgers went 22-30. Rojas was struggling too, hitting just .171 in May with one homer in 41 at-bats, and by August, he hadn’t hit a single home run in 63 at-bats. Hence, no wonder there were talks about the team possibly moving on from him. “I was kind of like in a really dark place in mid June when I wasn’t producing the way that I was supposed to and I wasn’t playing that much,” Rojas acknowledged. But he might’ve saved his best swing for the World Series, and while his future with the Dodgers still isn’t guaranteed, he’s certainly earned himself a moment no one will forget. Miguel Rojas’ future with the Dodgers is still not certain Yes, you heard that right… Rojas is heading into free agency this offseason, but there’s a real chance we haven’t seen the last of him in Dodger blue. Why? According to insider reports, the team might bring him back for one final season. Remember how this year was a farewell run for Clayton Kershaw. “I want to sign here. I already told the guys my desire to be with this organization. And I think we deserve another run,” Rojas said after the World Series. And it seems the front office might feel the same way. With what Rojas offers on both offense and defense, the one-year, $7 million deal projected by NBC Sports’ Matthew Pouliot could very well work out with the Dodgers — although nothing’s official yet! However, catcher Will Smith made it clear how much the team values their veteran leader: “Those are two guys who are leaders on the team that contributed a lot this year. Personally, I’d love to have them back. I know we’re going to try to get them back. Love those guys and hopefully they’re back with us next year.” Now, if the Dodgers do offer Rojas the chance to finish his career in Los Angeles, it would be the perfect sendoff. A fitting tribute to the unexpected hero of the 2025 World Series.
