Los Angeles Dodgers two-way star Shohei Ohtani addressed the viral chants from the Toronto Blue Jays fans, who made their feelings about the Japanese sensation clear. During Game 1 of the World Series, Ohtani was showered with “we don’t need you” chants from the fans at Rogers Centre, in reference to his decision to spurn the Jays during free agency in favor of the Dodgers. As he came up to bat at the top of the ninth inning of World Series Game 1, Ohtani heard how the fans felt two years after rejecting them. Ahead of Game 3, Ohtani was finally asked about his feelings on the chant. “I thought it was great,” Ohtani said in Japanese. “My wife loves that chant so she teased me a little about it.” He added: “But I’m focused during my at-bats, so it doesn’t really bother me or anything like that.” He also joked about hoping to not hear them at home. “Overall, I can relax once I get home,” Ohtani said. “I just try to make sure I don’t hear the same kind of chants at home that I heard in Toronto.” Ohtani will undoubtedly hear more from the Jays fans if they end up winning the title, though there is still plenty of baseball left to be played. The Dodgers have a run of three home games coming, with the series tied at one apiece. Ohtani will take the mound for Game 4, setting the stage for another fantastic performance where he will hit and pitch in the same game. Regardless of how the series ends, Ohtani will likely not feel any regret about turning down the Blue Jays, considering he has already won a title in Los Angeles, where he looks settled on and off the field.
