Before Aaron Glenn went 0-7 to open his tenure as the head coach of the New York Jets this fall, he served as the Detroit Lions' defensive coordinator under head coach Dan Campbell. The Jets picked up their first win under Glenn when they notched a come-from-behind 39-38 victory at the Cincinnati Bengals this past Sunday. While speaking about Glenn and current Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson, the Lions' former offensive coordinator, during a Tuesday appearance on Detroit sports radio station 97.1 The Ticket, Campbell reminded impatient fans that positive change doesn't always come for a team under a new regime overnight. Dan Campbell preaches patience regarding Jets' Aaron Glenn "Both of those guys, you go into a new program and there’s a reason why you just got hired, because things weren’t going the way that those organizations wanted them to go," Campbell said, per Audacy. "So, it takes a minute. It just does. And you don’t know when that’ll come, how long it’s going to take, and patience is always going to help." Campbell knows what it's like to be on the receiving end of criticism, as the Lions went 3-13-1 in his first season (2021) in charge. Since that time, however, he has guided Detroit to three straight winning campaigns and to the NFC Championship Game held in January 2024. As it pertains to the Jets, Glenn is attempting to establish a new culture for a franchise that shares the longest active postseason drought across the NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB and MLS with the NHL's Buffalo Sabres (14 seasons). Campbell revealed that he has kept in touch with Glenn amid the Jets' struggles this season. Dan Campbell is still a "huge" Aaron Glenn fan "I’m keeping up with AG," Campbell added about seeing the end of the Jets-Bengals game on Oct. 26. "I’ll text back and forth with him. I’m a huge fan, obviously. So it was good to see. I know that was tough. You’re down a couple of scores, and they rallied back, hung in there and found a way to win. And to get that first one, it’s just a good feeling. Happy for all those guys." Jets fans are hoping Glenn will eventually follow in Campbell's footsteps as a successful head coach. For now, Gang Green will rest up during its bye before the 1-7 club hosts the Cleveland Browns (2-6) on Nov. 9.
