Selfridges and Disney have unveiled their Christmas collaboration of interactive windows, exclusive product collections, and a Disney Castle nighttime show. Disney x Selfridges Selfridges and Disney announced “A Most Magical Christmas” in September and launched Disney Parks merchandise at the Selfridges London, Manchester Trafford Centre, Manchester Exchange, and Birmingham Bullring locations. The exterior of the London store has now been transformed with 12 Disney window displays, a bespoke façade, and a light show featuring a Disney Castle inspired by Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland Paris. ‘A Most Magical Christmas’ is a true celebration of creativity and innovation. This extraordinary reimagining of classic Disney storytelling, brought to life through Selfridges’ iconic retail spaces, is fun, engaging, and full of festive magic. We’re delighted to be bringing such special, memorable moments to shoppers from all over the world this Holiday. -Claire Terry, Senior Vice President Disney Consumer Products EMEA We’re pushing the boundaries of retail with this once-in-a-lifetime collaboration. We’re beyond excited to share the magic with our customers and see the joy on their faces as they enjoy the light show on the façade, dive into the Disney windows and create memories at our spectacular experiences. This is truly set to be a most magical Christmas. -André Maeder, Selfridges Group Chief Executive Officer Nighttime Light Show Selfridges London on Oxford Street will present the Disney-inspired light and music show every 15 minutes in the evenings from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tinker Bell’s pixie dust illuminates more than 100 meters of sparkling lights around the building. These include 40 stars, the Jolly Roger from Peter Pan, and Cinderella’s coach. The show is set to music from Cinderella and culminates in the illumination of the Disney Castle at the corner of Oxford and Duke Street. It’s an 11-meter-tall custom-made 3D model. Selfridges and Disney collaborations date back to the 1950s when the Mad Hatter was featured above the store’s main entrance in honor of Alice in Wonderland. A Peter Pan display went up in the 1960s. Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck were featured in the 1970s. Disney Window Displays Hand-painted sets inspired by Disney stories are featured in 12 Oxford Street windows. Some include music and the Peter Pan one is interactive thanks to Disney Imagineers. Visitors can interact with Tinker Bell as she sprinkles pixie dust in the Darling nursery. Windows on Orchard Street “celebrate the timeless magic of Disney through the eyes of two original concept artists.” Scenes from Sleeping Beauty, Alice in Wonderland, and Cinderella have been reinterpreted from illustrations into sculptural moments shifting between 2D and 3D. And in Birmingham and Manchester, shoppers can enjoy windows inspired by Lady and the Tramp, Cinderella, and Fantasia.
