Members of the Tamil Nadu Association for the Rights of All Types of Differently-Abled and Caregivers (TARATDAC) submitted a petition to the district administration here on Monday (October 27, 2025), urging the government to extend reservation in education and employment, and to provide monthly financial assistance for persons with stunted growth. Led by district secretary P. Marimuthu, the members said that as per the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, adults with a height of four feet 10 inches (147 cm) or less are classified as persons with dwarfism. Around 50,000 such people live in Tamil Nadu, most of them in rural areas. They said that in many districts, certificates under the Act are not issued, preventing them from availing themselves of government assistance and welfare schemes. They also alleged that basic amenities are lacking in public places and that officials do not treat them properly. The association urged the State government to provide monthly assistance, free housing, and priority in education and employment, besides accommodation facilities in district headquarters.
